Minit - The Friday FREE GAME Feature!

Minit is a top-down adventure game (ala The Legend of Zelda) with a unique twist - you have one minute to live!

Early on, you pick up a cursed sword that kills you in 60 seconds then respawns you at your home (starting the countdown all over again). As cursed items go, you can't simply discard the blasted thing, so you set out to find a way to remove the curse.

Celeste is a challenging platformer with a surprisingly strong story. As Madeline, you're trying to climb to the top of Celeste Mountain, but the journey is treacherous. There's far more than just rugged terrain to contend with, as it seems that both the mountain and Madeline are haunted.

Hyper Light Drifter - The Friday FREE GAME Feature!

Hyper Light Drifter is an action adventure title influenced by classics like Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, only cranked to eleven in terms of scale. A number of large zones are immediately open to explore, but dozens of areas are either cleverly hidden or locked away. This game doesn't just reward you for exploration - it kind of requires it. Earning upgrades and finding some of the keys (or other unlock mechanisms) means scouring every inch of the map looking for hidden paths.

Zap Zap Zombie Cat & Cat Quest Demo - The Friday FREE GAME =DOUBLE= Feature!

It's another double feature with a theme - the internet's favorite animal, cats!

First up is Zap Zap Zombie Cats, a tower defense game. It shows some promise, but it could use some tweaking. You can hear more of my thoughts on it at 1:38:20 in the video above.

Cat Quest is an action RPG that's been polished to a shine and is about as cute as it could possibly be without crossing the line into nauseating. It feels a bit short even for a demo, but gives you a small taste of what to expect. The art and presentation are fantastic, and the gameplay is competent enough to be fun (based on what little of it there was in the demo, that is).

The Witness - The Friday FREE GAME Feature!

The Witness is an open world puzzle and exploration game that feels somewhat like an updated version of Myst. You awake on an island that's seemingly been abandoned, with all manner of unusual devices strewn about. Logic is vital to progression, as entire sections of the island are locked away until you can solve the puzzling nature of the devices. 

The early areas of this game are right up there with Portal in terms of teaching the player, which is no small feat considering it uses no dialogue to do so! The difficulty spikes a bit later on, especially if your exploration takes you to an entirely different part of the island! Overall, The Witness seems like an interesting title that puzzle-solvers should be fairly entertained with. You can hear more of my thoughts on the game at 4:25:58 in the video above.

Thimbleweed Park - The Friday FREE GAME Feature!

Thimbleweed Park is a point-n-click adventure game created by the minds behind classics like the Monkey Island series and Maniac Mansion. Murder is afoot in the strange, small town and two agents are sent to find out what truly happened! You can find more of my thoughts in at 4:00:23 in the video above, but it's worth noting I enjoyed the game enough to continue and finish it the week after!

Axiom Verge - The Friday FREE GAME Feature!

Axiom Verge is about as close as one can get to Super Metroid (in terms of gameplay - the story is much, much different) yet still be unique. You play as a scientist that wakes up in a bizarre world after an experiment gone awry. As a fan of metroidvanias in general, I was quite happy with this title. Some of your acquired abilities differ slightly from Samus' skillset, but they're still interesting and offer new design space to challenge players with.

What Remains of Edith Finch - The Friday FREE GAME Feature!

What Remains of Edith Finch is a narrative exploration game about the memories of the title character and her family. The Finch clan is quite an unusual bunch, and rumor has it the family has been living under a curse for many generations. Exploring the Finch property and interacting with personal effects let you learn more about each family member.

Super Meat Boy - The Friday FREE GAME Feature!

Super Meat Boy is a challenging (but fun) platformer with a well-developed learning curve and a slightly twisted sense of humor! You can hear further thoughts on the game at 2:13:43 in the video above. 

Food Drive - The Friday FREE GAME Feature!

Food Drive takes its title quite literally, as you're tasked to deliver food across the entire city to those in need. You can even launch packages from a cannon! While there's not a lot of content, the game raises awareness for a noble cause, which is something I can definitely get behind! MMOMG May '18 - SoulWorker

Next month, I'm playing SoulWorker for MMOMG! I had a shortlist of possible titles on deck and this one seems to be fairly popular right now. Not being a huge anime fan and knowing this game is a "town hub" kind of MMO, my expectations aren't real high, but I'm willing to give it a shot.

Streaming Next Month - Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time!

I'll be streaming Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time in April! I originally wanted to stream some of the Tomb Raider games, but I'm having trouble getting them to work the way I want to for streaming.

As it stands, I could stream most of them if I wanted to use a controller... which I really don't like. I may still attempt it sometime (perhaps even later in the month after finishing PoP), but I'd much rather use keyboard and mouse controls. We'll see. Part of the fun of the non-MMOMG months is playing it by ear and trying different things.
