Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms is an incremental/clicker game based in the popular Dungeons & Dragons setting. While similar to Clicker Heroes or Tap Heroes with its fantasy adventure theme, Idle Champions contains more... everything, really.
For starters, the main portion of the game contains a battlefield that shows your heroes in action. The graphics aren't anything mind-blowing, but it's nice to actually see your party slinging spells and swords. There's more to the battlefield than just pretty looks, though. Your heroes fight in formation, and the position of each champion radically changes how effective the total party is. This lends an extra element of strategy on top of the basic clicker mechanics, particularly on occasions where your standard formation is interrupted (such as the adventure with the friendly imps).
Speaking of adventure, Idle Champions gives you entire campaign maps with adventures at each location. Don't get me wrong - each adventure is relatively similar - but there's at least a storyline for each one and you get to choose which adventure to attempt. Completing an adventure earns you favor with a particular diety, which confers a permanent campaign bonus for your party.
If that wasn't enough, defeating bosses during adventures provide a chance of dropping chests that can contain a number of goodies - gold, potions, gear and more. Heroes automatically equip the best gear found, and duplicates upgrade that piece of gear, meaning everything has a use to some extent.
Even with all the extra stuff included in Idle Champions, it felt easier to understand than Clicker Heroes where you have to learn which relics do what on your first ascension. I typically only play clicker games to pass time when I'm not feeling well, and the last thing I want to do at that point is read an entire wiki or strategy guide just to progress!
Truth be told, I've been playing Idle Champions off and on for the last couple of weeks since I streamed it. I'm not quite certain what the draw is, but the game got its hooks in me at least for a short time. If you're already a fan of idle/incremental/clicker games, you'll definitely want to give Idle Champions a look.
