Challenging Metroidvania-style platformer!
Project Adventure Game is a difficult but rewarding exploration platformer. It plays similarly to classics like Metroid or Castlevania, requiring you to learn the patterns and moves needed to survive an area with save points being few and far between.
This style of platformer is sure to frustrate some people to the point of not wanting to play. Imagine going through a rigorous obstacle course over and over until you finally reach the prize, only to discover you now have to run the course backwards to actually get to keep the reward. Those patient enough to endure will realize just how rewarding it feels to finally accomplish this, but it's an experience some will want no part of. While I did get frustrated sometimes, I found myself wanting to give it another try right away, meaning it hit the sweet spot in terms of difficulty, repetition and entertainment (which is not an easy task).
The levels I played were all well designed. Each new area held challenges that at first glance seemed impossible, but typically just required some good timing and a bit of trial and error (and perhaps an upgrade from another location to access). The controls were fairly responsive, but jumping into one-high tunnels was often more difficult than you might imagine.
If you're feeling nostalgic for the epic adventure platformers of years past, do not pass up Project Adventure Game!
